Representation needs participation: European electionson 13th-15th April in Salerno (Italy)

AEGEE-SALERNO & AEGEE-EUROPE CIVIC EDUCATION GROUP

On 07.02.2018 the European Parliament lost the chance to make our ballots European, meaning that there will be no establishment of transnational lists for future European elections. What just happened is disappointing and a huge opportunity waste!

The European Union plays a large role in its citizens lives. Many of the discussed topics, like austerity, migration or unemployment, and of the laws made directly impact the life of everyday people. But where are these discussions and decisions happening? How can the European citizens influence them? Is voting a method of choice?

If you want these questions to be answered and you want to discuss their answers then the conference “Representation needs participation: European electionsin Salerno (Italy) on 13th-15th April, is the right place for you to go! AEGEE-Salerno in collaboration with the CEWG and supported by Association des Amis de Franck Biancheri is delighted to offer you this event for important current discussions about the European election system.

For three days the participants will have the chance to learn about different kinds of electoral systems in Europe, reflect about their advantages and disadvantages aided by qualified experts and through interactive sessions. The focus will be on pan-european party elections as an alternative to the current system. This year the proposal to introduce pan-european parties at European elections was made by Emmanuel Macron, the French president. Could this be a way to make the european elections more interesting and even more relevant for citizens? And how should it be done exactly?
